Overview
Total daily energy expenditure, or TDEE, is an estimate of how many calories you use in an average day. How to estimate
Most TDEE calculators use a two-step process: estimate basal metabolic rate, then account for activity.
- Estimate resting needs. A commonly used equation is the Mifflin-St Jeor formula. For men, the estimate is 10 × weight in kilograms + 6.25 × height in centimetres − 5 × age in years + 5. Exercise is only one part of activity. Do not change the target after every unusual weigh-in. Instead, follow the same calorie target consistently for about two to three weeks when practical, then compare average body weight across weeks.
